The Weavers’ Cottage

A 1700’s loom shop and one of the older buildings in Rossendale, the Weavers’ Cottage was rescued from demolition by the then Rawtenstall Civic Society. Although the rear half was lost in the 1970s slum clearance programmes. the main importance of the building was preserved.

Renovated into a local heritage centre by patient fund-raising and hours of members’ time, the building is still run by volunteers. The Weavers’ Cottage acts both as a museum and a meeting place for the Trust and other local community groups.

With displays and working hand looms on the top floor, a Victorian kitchen and a clog shop on the bottom and a tea room between, we offer a welcoming facility for casual visitors and anyone seeking further information on the area.

We are open to the public between 1-5 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays from Easter to the end of September. If you’re arranging a trip for a school or history group, to the Cottage or any of Rossendale’s other attractions, please contact us for ideas and information. The Weavers’ Cottage

MEMORIES OF A MURDER?

Many visitors to the Weavers' Cottage ask - "Where was the murder?" It will be 64 years this November since Maggie Allen first hit the headlines, and it is time to take another look at the story that has never gone away. We are hoping to put a definitive folder together which tells it as it happened.

Anyone with any memories of the events of those days is invited to get in touch with us at rossendalecivictrust@googlemail.com or drop a line to the Weavers' Cottage
