Rawtenstall Re-designed Following the report from Consultants BDP, the Borough Council has put forward it’s proposals for an “inset” Town Centre development plan.
The aim is to make the town centre vibrant and attractive, capitalising on its collection of “Niche Market” shops.

Rawtenstall Market
It has been recommended that the market stays on its present site as an anchor to the top end of Bank Street and proposes re-designing the frontage, with better stalls and more open space.

Valley Centre
The cleared shopping precinct site is being set out as an events space, but this may only be a short term use as the Borough Council is seeking a partner for future redevelopment. Whatever this will be remains to be seen, but designing it will be a challenge. especially once things have settled down and everyone has got used to the new views of the surrounding Listed Buildings. These were not Listed when the precinct was built in the late 1960s and the Conservation Area was not designated until 1990.

Bus Station
The site for this has still not been settled and Lancashire County Council is proposing another round of consultation - with an eye on the precinct site!
We are in for an interesting time.
